"Hey look, a Honda!"  My first gut feeling tells me this is exactly what people will be thinking and saying about Harley's new platform in 2014 for global riders.  Liquid Cooled motorcycles:  Harley Street 750 and Harley Street 500.

Here are the features of Harley Davidson's "Project Rushmore" agenda:

  • Liquid cooled engines in both 750 & 500 format (known as "Twin Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 V-Twin")
  • Touch screen Electronics (integrated audio, GPS, phone, voice recognition, etc)
  • Linked Brake Systems (The Reflex will synchronize the front and rear brakes, includes ABS)
  • Other new features include a wider "Batwing" fairing, new LED lighting system, dual halogen lights and more

The 8 Harley motorcycles that will benefit, if you will, include the following:   2014 Road King, 2014 Street Glide, 2014 Street Glide Special, 2014 Electra Glide Ultra Classic, 2014 Ultra Limited, 2014 Tri Glide Ultra, 2014 CVO Ultra Limited and 2014 CVO Road King.

Here's my bottomline:  I'm not joking about my previous "Hey Look, a Honda!" statement, Harley will will be raked across the coals for this.  However, my 2nd gut feeling is that Harley Davidson isn't as stupid as their radiators look.  All you need to do is pull a rap sheet on motorcycle crashes / deaths the past 20 years.  You'll find 2 major common denominators (besides typical careless drivers pulling out in front of law abiding motorcyclists):  inexperienced riders & earlier model motorcycles.  Motorcycles with earlier technology are among a large population involved in accidents.  Thus, Harley evolves into tomorrow's technology to.....provide a safer future for motorcycle riders.
